Timor Leste to Join ASEAN [ Cartoon ART - Part I]

Imagine if Timor Leste and Papua New Guinea could join ASEAN, hopefully there could be more integrated community economically, socially, and politically against outside forces (China, USA) in South East Asia. Both China and USA has the unfortunate habit of fighting their war outside of their country and we don't need to be involved in their quarrels. Plus ASEAN trading bloc that accommodates 500 million people whose economies have enjoyed unprecedented growth could help other economy of fellow new ASEAN members like Timor Leste and Papua New Guinea. 

Sure there're still problems in Papua New Guinea and Timor leste, but you know what, about 15 years ago, ASEAN was sharply criticized for allowing Cambodia, Laos and Burma into the trading bloc. The three were seen as either ill-equipped, corrupt or morally bankrupt. Those criticisms were probably justified, but with the benefit of hindsight, Cambodia and Laos are now much better places because of their admission, despite their flaws. Burma is showing some signs of finally opening up. The bait has been Naypyidaw’s desire to exercise its right to chair the prestigious annual ASEAN summit in 2014.

Times have since changed, ASEAN has evolved into a formidable political institution, and perhaps the ASEAN should re-visit Papua New Guinea’s and Timor Leste's application. So, what do you guys think?

História do Adile Sebastião e dos  ”Fidjus di Bideras”

Advertência ao leitor: prepare o seu lencinho porque vai chorar, pois o que ler é mesmo para fazer verter lágrimas, muitas.

Nem tudo na Guiné-Bissau é política, ou pelo menos política dura, suja e violenta. E nem toda a gente transpira corrupção e droga. Há muita gente boa (e alguma má) em todos os grupos sociais e em todo o lado neste nosso mundo. Posso citar muitos países na África, da Ásia, Europa, Américas, onde, em termos per capita, há mais sacanagem e mais crimes se praticam do que nesta Terra de Deus, a Guiné-Bissau.

Esta é uma terra abençoada com muita água, chuva, rios e lagos. Um mar muito, muito rico. Mas esta enorme riqueza marinha está a saque em pleno dia por centenas de traficantes, oriundos de países que falam muito sobre a droga na Guiné-Bissau, mas não dizem uma palavra sobre a pesca ilegal, espoliando e levando à ruína milhões de gentes simples de toda esta região da África.

Enquanto o vizinho Senegal está sendo devorado pelo deserto do Sahel, asfixiado pela poeira, a Guiné-Bissau exibe verdura luxuriante, com belas florestas de madeiras raras que ate atraem comerciantes sem escrúpulos do Império do Meio.

A Guiné-Bissau foi também abençoada com um povo bom, avesso à violência. Aqui há tradições ricas, profundas, místicas, difíceis de decifrar; há dança, música, poesia, cinema.

Já fui a um concerto de jazz com orquestra. No passado, fui frequentador dos grandes clubes de jazz em Greenwich Village, Nova Iorque, mas um concerto de jazz com uma orquestra sinfónica, só em Bissau! Foi no Centro Cultural Francês, com agendamento cultural variado toda a semana, onde assisti a esse fabuloso concerto de jazz apresentado por um famoso grupo alemão. O Centro Cultural Francês é um magneto na cidade, atraindo centenas de pessoas, de todas as idades, cada semana.

O Centro Cultural Brasileiro não fica atrás, com muitas atividades culturais, musicais, literárias e cinematográficas de grande qualidade.

O Centro Cultural Português é muito mais parco em atividades. Sou bem timorense, mas a minha costela luso-judaica faz-me viver e sofrer com Portugal e fico triste quando oiço falar deselegantemente do CCP. Dizem que ali só há o jornal “A Bola”! Dou a mão `a palmatória…ainda não fui lá. Hei-de ir e tenho esperança em desaprovar aqueles que falam mal do Centro Cultural Português. Vou descobrir que, além do venerado jornal “A Bola”, há muito mais eco da grande herança cultural portuguesa.

Políticos não faltam na Guiné-Bissau. Há mais de 30 partidos políticos. Isto significa que não falta gente com ambição de governar. Há também universitários sem conta, desde advogados a economistas, até médicos. As Forcas Armadas têm oficiais altamente formados, licenciados e mestrados. Ouvimos falar apenas no General António Injai, mas há muitos outros, jovens e de grande intelecto.

E aqui atribuem-se todos os males, dos pequenos aos mais graves, aos militares. Pude comprovar alguns incidentes em que, com a maior desenvoltura, se acusava os “militares” para, após alguma averiguação por mim feita, se vir a concluir que, afinal, nenhum militar estivera envolvido.

Há comerciantes experientes, relativamente bem sucedidos, aqui e na região. Mas, então, porquê esta estagnação e depauperamento? Hoje decidi escrever só sobre as coisas boas, pois das más toda a gente escreve.

E vou partilhar com vós (sim…com vós…não digo convosco, pois gosto mais de dizer com vós…) uma história bonita, que faz chorar...

É a história do Adile Sebastião. Ele é o segundo de sete filhos do casal Domingos Armando Sebastião, empregado comercial de 60 anos, e Abelina Biaguê, doméstica e vendedora, de 51.

Conheci-o há umas semanas, quando aceitei um convite para assistir a um jogo de futebol promovido pela Academia Fidjus de Bideras (crioulo), o que em português significa “Filhos das Vendedeiras”. O estádio, recém construído pela cooperação chinesa, fez-me inveja, sendo timorense. Nós, em Timor-Leste, temos um estádio que, mesmo depois da sua reabilitação, não tem sequer metade da dimensão e condições deste estádio de Bissau.

Leaders of the Melanesian Spearhead Group (MSG) are meeting in Kanaky (New Caledonia) from 13th to 21st June 2013 to discuss West Papua's inclusion into the very influential regional body.

This is an incredibly significant step on the road to West Papuan independence as it will dramatically raise the prospect of West Papuan independence back onto the agenda of all fellow Melanesian nations and ultimately push them to be the first nations to officially recognise the state of West Papua.

Over 500,000 innocent Melanesian West Papuan men, women and children have already been killed by the Indonesian military.

If MSG does not support West Papua then in 20 years there may be no Melanesians left in West Papua at all.

The leaders of Vanuatu, Solomon Islands, Fiji and Kanaky have already pledged their support for West Papua's inclusion into MSG.

West Papua has tried time after time to join MSG and only this year does it look like they have an incredibly strong chance of joining.

FREE WEST PAPUA! PAPUA MERDEKA!

I lost a friend, a friend that i knew for a long time ago....

Being part of Tata Mai Lau traditional dance group allowed me to know new people from different ethnicities and different roots...

Those with whom we identified most were without a doubt from West Papua and Maluku... Holland was where we met back in 1996. These kind, beautiful and unique people like us Timorese people were fighting for Freedom aiming for justice and peace.

Like us, they never gave up and they never will untill the day Indonesia leaves the people alone...

Jofrey was whom i could keep in touch since than, i never met someone so loyal and truthful for a cause...

Unfortunately he left us and can no longer keep fighting for his country. Papua lost a voice but didn't lost the strength to keep fighting.

To you my dear friend, distance is not an obstacle, but it’s a strong reminder of how meaningful and powerful a  friendship can be...

Through a simple friendship waves of solidarity will build up!

Timor Leste dan Kekuatan Sepak Bola Baru di Asia.

Solo – Penyelenggaraan turnamen Piala AFF U-16 Youth Championship 2010 di Solo resmi berakhir, namun sedikit menyisakan kabar mengenai pencapaian prestasi dari sebuah tim yang baru berdiri, yakni Timor Leste, nama negara yang sebelum merdeka memisahkan diri dari Indonesia, sering orang kenal dengan nama Timor Timur yang dulunya menjadi salah satu provinsi di Indonesia. Sejak Timor Leste merdeka pada tahun 1999 melalui referendum, negara tersebut mulai merangkak bangkit, salah satunya dari cabang olahraga sepak bola. 

Sepak bola Timor Leste kini dapat dikatakan menjadi salah satu kekuatan baru di kawasan Asia Tenggara (Asean) dengan sering membuat kejutan ketika melawan tim-tim tradisi kuat di Asean. Bahkan hingga tingkat benua Asia pun, Timor Leste mampu lolos ke putaran final Piala AFC 2010 Nobember mendatang di Uzbekistan sebagai tuan rumah. 

Sebagai persiapan sebelum bertolak ke Piala AFC November mendatang, Timor Leste memenuhi undangan untuk mengikuti turnamen empat tim bersama China, Vietnam, dan tuan rumah Indonesia dalam kejuaraan Piala AFF U-16 Youth Championship 2010, yang dilaksanakan di kota Solo. Bagaimana hasilnya? sangat mengejutkan. Tim sepak bola negara yang baru 11 tahun merdeka ini berhasil keluar sebagai juara ketiga di bawah Vietnam sang juara dan China di runner up. Bahkan di perebutan tempat ketiga, Minggu (26/9) sore kemarin, Nidio Ferreira, dkk mampu mempecundangi Indonesia 2-0. 

Tampaknya faktor pelatih dan bantuan dari organisasi non pemerintahan Korea Selatan lah yang membuat persepakbolaan Timor Leste berkembang cepat. Pelatih Kim Shin Hwan adalah seorang warga negara Korea Selatan yang cukup lama menetap di Timor Leste dan menghabiskan waktu bersama anak-anak Timor Leste untuk bermain bola. Belum lagi dengan bantuan pembinaan dari negara Korea Selatan berupa lembaga non pemerintahan yang ikut memberikan sumbangsih dan peduli dengan sepak bola Timor Leste. 

Manajer timnas U-16 Timor Leste, Nelyo Isaac, pun mengakui bahwa berkat bantuan Kim dan negara Korsel, sepak bola Timor Leste siap menjadi kekuatan baru di Asia. “Tuan Kim telah lama membina anak-anak ini (timnas Timor Leste U-16). Sejak usia 12 tahun mereka sudah diajari oleh tuan Kim bagaimana bermain sepak bola yang benar, karena dia juga sangat menyukai sepak bola,” ungkapnya kepada Timlo.net usai timnya mengalahkan Vietnam, Jumat (24/9) lalu. 

Nelson juga menambahkan bahwa Kim kerap mengajak anak-anak Timor Leste melihat video perjuangan tim Korsel. “Bahkan tuan Kim seringkali menayangkan video perjalanan perjuangan dan taktik strategi timnas Korea Selatan, untuk dilihat bersama dengan para pemain. 

Selain itu, Timor Leste langsung mengadakan training centre (TC) atau pemusatan latihan di Korea Selatan usai mengikuti Piala AFF di Solo. “Besok kita langsung bertolak ke Korea Selatan untuk pemusatan latihan,” imbuh Nelyo kemarin. 

Inilah perbedaan tim Timor Leste dengan timnas Indonesia, Timor Leste negara yang baru saja merdeka, namun mereka menunjukkan keseriusan dalam hal pembinaan bibit-bibit pemain sepak bola mereka. Inilah bukti perkembangan sepak bola Timor Leste yang begitu pesat, bukan tak mungkin Timor Leste akan dapat menyaingi prestasi negara-negara Asia lainnya, yang sanggup masuk ke putaran final Piala Dunia untuk kali pertama ke depannya. Lantas bagaimana dengan negara kita Indonesia?

Timor Leste win U-14 finals last ticket

Nay Pyi Taw: Timor Leste punched the last ticket to the AFC U-14 Championship 2014 finals after whipping the Philippines 8-1 in their last qualifying Group E match at the Wunna Theik Stadium in Myanmar on Monday.

Defender Jobellquim Nias Godinho Da Costa scored a quadruple while striker Joao Pedro Da Silva Freitas contributed a double to the Timor Leste cause. Midfielder Leopoldo Artur Gutierres and substitute Matias Ximenes Guterres were on the score-sheet for a goal each.

Timor Leste finished their qualifying campaign on top of the six-nation group having accumulated 13 points, a points level matched by Malaysia but superior goal difference (Timor Leste’s 27 vs Malaysia’s 16) positioned the Malaysians on second spot.

The Malaysians were also the only side Timor Leste could not beat whereas all the other four opponents had to bow down to Joao Manuel Da Silva Araujo’s side. They had downed Vietnam 2-1, Brunei Darussalam 14-0 and Myanmar 6-1.

The Filipinos, meanwhile, finished on fifth spot having won only one game out of four.

In Group F also hosted by Myanmar, Thailand had emerged as the unmatchable leaders after beating Cambodia 1-0 on Sunday and therefore qualifying for the finals with a match to spare.

Both Thailand and Timor Leste have joined the ranks of Iran, Korea Republic, Saudi Arabia, Tajikistan, DPR Korea and Iraq, altogether eight teams, to contest for top honours in the inaugural U-14 championship.
